London to Columbo, 1998

Published in Stories

In late 1998 after a year living and working in London, England to cash up, three of the Eagar Bros jumped on a flight to Sri Lanka. This was our inagural trip to the Asian continent.  Previously we had travelled extensively across Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Central America.  To say that we were excited was an understatement.  As we pounded back the beer (as you do when you're 25, 26, & 27 years old) we made a 3 year plan.  However, this wasn't just the beer talking.  We were completely serious.  This was our list:

  1. 1999 spend a year traveling across Asia,
  2. 2000 hit Australia to live and work in Sydney during the Olympics,
  3. Hide away in NZ in 2001 to travel and do some writing.

We nailed the plan then made another even more ambitious plan a few years later to include getting our own TV show. A great plan, but boy were we hurting when we arrived in Ceylon.
